Taking the First Step

- Inventory your skills — Some military experience actually qualifies as project management experience in the Project Management Professional (PMP)® program or entry level Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® program for those with little or no project management experience. Additionally, roles such as risk managers, schedulers, business analysts, technology managers, portfolio managers and more provide a variety of options as well as career path opportunities.
- Translate your skills — Crosswalk your military skills into project management jargon used in the industry. Through Project Management Job Board, access career services with every step of the job-seeking process, from resume writing to career coaching
Meet People in the Field
Network with other military service member and veteran project managers at your local PMI chapter; work with the chapter Military Liaison or Military Mentors who can help you determine if project management is the right fit for you, and mentor you through the process.
