Role Description:

The VP of Volunteers is responsible for addressing the needs of the volunteers, including recruitment, retention, recognition and leadership development training and support in accordance with chapter policies and bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for volunteer recruitment and/or retention
    • Maintain a list of all chapter volunteer roles, volunteer and contact info
    • Maintain a chapter volunteer org chart
  • Conduct volunteer on-boarding program for all new volunteers
  • Understand and leverage experience of volunteers and direct them to various initiatives in the chapter
  • Responsible for identifying and developing programs to involve, develop and engage volunteers
  • Responsible for oversight, administration and building awareness of the chapter (and PMI’s) volunteer policies, procedures and guidelines
    • Conduct annual volunteer training program
  • Responsible for the development of volunteers to serve in their volunteer roles
  • Responsible for developing and administering volunteer recognition programs
  • Responsible for the general oversight and management of the chapter’s volunteer programs and services
  • Develop and implement succession and transition plan

Time Sensitive Activities:

  • Monthly – Report to board any open volunteer positions and recruitment activity
  • Annually – Coordinate purchase of volunteer awards and volunteer recognition at Annual meeting
  • Annually – Coordinate volunteer training with Director of Volunteers
  • As Needed – Conduct volunteer on-boarding when Director of Volunteers is not available

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must serve the entire two year board term
  • Expected to attend all board meetings
  • Generally expected to attend the majority of local chapter events and recruit for open volunteer positions
  • Generally expect to average 5-10 hours per month during the board year

Backup or Emergency Plan:

  • In the event that the VP of Volunteers can not fulfill their role for an interim or extended period of time the President will select another board member or director to take their place.
